This photo shows Lyndhurst Drive shops in Hornchurch. It’s from 1934. The shops served the Grey Towers estate. Leach’s Store, a hardware shop, is visible. An off-licence is also in the picture. You can also see two people in the shot. One is in the post office doorway. The other is possibly Mr. Leach outside his store.
Here’s C&A in Romford’s Market Place. This picture is from 1965. It’s C&A’s first year. Sale signs are visible in the windows. North and Partners Architects designed the building. Today, B&M occupies that space. C&A closed all UK stores in 2001.
This photo shows Delins Supermarket in Rainham. It’s from November 1969. The supermarket was new then. Rainham Radio and Television Services is also visible. Yvonne Hair Stylist and Sketchley Cleaners are there, too.
Today, convenience stores are on that road now. You can also find Favorite Chicken & Ribs there, too.
Here’s Woolworths on Romford High Street. The photo is from the 1980s. Curtess Shoes and the Golden Lion are also visible. A British Heart Foundation shop replaced Woolworths. Now, One Below store occupies that space too. This change happened in 2021.
This image captures Debenhams in Romford’s Market Place. It’s from February 16, 2000. The shop used to be Stone’s. After Debenhams closed in 2021, Aklu Plaza opened. Now, Home Store is in that space, proving that the shops keep changing over time.
