A Fulham flat fire, believed accidental, sparks warnings about portable heater safety after an incident on North End Road.

The fire damaged part of a flat on the eighth floor. Thankfully, no one got hurt during this event. Investigators think it started by accident; something flammable was too near a fan heater.
A fire brigade spokesperson discussed energy costs. High costs may increase heating-related fires. People might find other ways to stay warm instead of central heating.
Keep heaters away from curtains and furniture. Paperwork should also be kept at a safe distance. Never dry clothes on a heater, and sit at least one meter away from the heater; your clothes or chair could catch fire.
Watch children closely when heaters are in use. Position a heater where it cannot fall over easily. Also, keep heaters away from pets.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully. Make sure heaters are safety registered and working well. Place heaters away from anything that could burn; this prevents accidental fires from starting quick.
The first call came in just before midnight. Control officers sent six engines and about 40 firefighters. They came from Fulham, Hammersmith, and Chelsea. Firefighters put the fire out by around 12:30 AM.
