A proposal for an underground helicopter lift in a Bromley garden sparks debate among neighbours over noise, aesthetics, and community impact.

Several neighbors oppose this plan. They worry about the helicopter noise that would come from takeoffs and landings. Two homeowners support the idea, though, calling it an “elegant solution” that hides the helicopter well.
The lift will be made of concrete and sit eight meters underground. A grassy lid will cover the helicopter, ensuring it is only seen during use.
The old owner supports the plan. They used the garden for landings from 2002 to 2022, feeling the space worked well then with minimal local disruption.
Some neighbors fear fuel smells will disturb garden users, and dislike the noise. Another thinks it could divide the community, creating constant issues.
They worry other people will copy this project. However, more locals support these plans, with someone calling the idea very sensible and liking how it hides the helicopter well, avoiding wasted space like a hangar.
Helicopters help those who can afford them and have room to fly from home. Documents say the owner needs regular helicopter access, describing the plan as sensitive and well-planned. DHA Planning did not comment on this project.
