Newport’s Heritage House earns a “good” hygiene rating from the Food Standards Agency after recent inspection.

Remember Granchies Caribbean Takeaway? Heritage House replaced it last September. The inspection covered three main things: food handling practices, cleanliness and building conditions, and how well food safety was managed.
Food handling earned a “very good” rating. That includes prep, cooking, cooling, and storage. Cleanliness and building upkeep got a “good” rating. This includes layout and hand washing areas, and pest control.
Food safety management was “generally satisfactory,” though. The FSA says this is about the system for safe food and checks if staff know food safety, and if standards stay high. Welsh law requires businesses to show their ratings.
Ratings range from zero to five. Zero means urgent improvement needed, while five means the standards are excellent. Businesses can actually challenge their scores, and each inspection covers those same three areas. Heritage House was asked to comment.
