Hertfordshire Constabulary could receive £18.8m extra, protecting neighbourhood officers and increasing officer numbers.

The policing budget is now £313m for 2025-26. Council tax for policing is going up by £14 yearly, a 5.6% increase for a Band D property. This tax boost will raise £7.38m extra.
The funding should mean more police officers, giving Hertfordshire a total of 2,405 officers. That is 12 more than planned earlier.
Despite fund issues, neighbourhood police will be kept. The budget plans increases in that policing area later.
The government provides 56% of police funds, while council tax makes up the other 44%. This comes from the policing part of the tax.
Now, a Band D home pays £265 for policing in 2025-26. It is the fifth lowest amount in England and Wales.
A survey revealed public support for this. 63% of people wanted to pay more, while 26% disagreed with the funding change. 11% didn’t feel strongly either way.
