Garden waste pickups will change in April. Hertsmere Council will only collect from paying homes. Last April, they started a signup system.

People needed a sticker on the bin. The first year was free.

Now, the first bin costs £50. Those getting council tax support pay £35. Extra bins cost £60 each.

You can have up to three bins. A new extra bin costs £42. The council wants the fees to cover costs.

Many other councils already charge for this. Some homes don’t need garden waste service. They do not have a garden. Charging means only users pay.

Residents were supposed to pay last April. Councillors delayed it in February. Other councils already charge, like Watford.

Hertsmere is giving out silver food bins. These bins hold 23 liters. A new weekly food service starts April 7. Collection days might change.

A calendar comes with the bin to tell you. Food waste gets picked up weekly. It will be collected on the same day as other bins.

Residents can get free kitchen caddies. Use them to move waste easily to the bin.
