Hickory’s Smokehouse in Skelton opened early due to speedy staff training. Includes American meals, bourbons, and kids’ area.

The team finished training quickly. They then practiced earlier than they thought, which allowed them to open sooner. Hickory’s has booths for different sized groups.
Jason Tobin is Hickory’s general manager. He said the team felt excited and welcomed locals for practice nights. He also said they were ready to open early.
People can order big American meals that taste like the Deep South. Expect Memphis ribs, Texas brisket, and BBQ pulled pork. Burgers, mac and cheese, and vegetarian dishes are available too.
They offer unique sweets and drinks like freak-shakes and sodas, and they serve over 25 bourbons. Guests can relax in the bar, which is open to everyone, even if they only visit the restaurant.
Kids can use a cinema room and a Fro-Co station, and they can play in the outdoor area. Adults enjoy comfy booths, outdoor dining huts, and the neighborhood bar inside, which provides a Deep South feeling.
John Welsh is Hickory’s managing director. He mentioned their excitement about York and wanting to expand further North for a while. The existing Yorkshire spots are popular, and he hopes to become a local fixture.
Wayne Chadwick from YO1 Radio visited, and Ben Thorpe, a food blogger, went too. Both felt very impressed and liked the big portions a great deal. They also enjoyed the authentic flavors.
