Over 250 applied for only twelve new SBHA homes in Burnfoot Hawick, highlighting the need for affordable housing.

The houses fit different people’s needs. Some homes are bungalows for easier access, offering one or two bedrooms. Other houses, designed for families, have two or three bedrooms.
The homes are equipped with solar panels for power and air source heat pumps for efficient heating. EV charging points are also available for electric cars.
Julia Mulloy, the chief executive at SBHA, talked about the new houses and said these homes help alleviate the local housing shortage. She noted the high demand in the area, with over 250 people wanting these twelve homes.
The project demonstrates SBHA’s commitment to affordable, green homes for the future, aiming to address the housing need. SBHA recently completed four homes on Leishman Place, also in Burnfoot, and is working on projects in other towns too.
The Scottish government and the council helped fund the project. SBHA expressed their gratitude for the support and excitement to welcome new tenants.
Councillor Hamilton was happy to attend and welcomed the sustainable homes. She congratulated SBHA for their work and expressed gladness that more homes are coming, which will help more people in the Borders.
