Residents object to a plan to build two houses on a green paddock near Westridge, citing loss of nature and visual impact.

The town council received the building request on January 20. Residents responded by sending 29 letters against it. Nobody wrote in favor of the project.
Folks dislike losing green space and worry about harm to plants and animals. The houses might hide Hollington Park, a historic building. Some think Highclere doesn’t need more homes.
Highclere’s local council also rejected the proposal. They believe the houses would stick out and ruin the natural views. They feel it’s very intrusive for the area.
The council states the owners changed plans. Previously, owners said they’d only use it for farming. They had assured the council they would protect the land.
Elizabeth Bowden wants to build. She previously got approval for a farm building for storing things. The new homes would be on the same land. Her earlier plan resulted in 14 objections.
