Burglar Paul Howell caught after Home Alone-style trap. He received over three years in jail after admitting guilt.

Homeowners used a water bucket and string. They set it up after some burglary attempts. It was like the movie “Home Alone.” Howell tripped the trap and ran off.
The bucket tipped over, making noise. Days later, the owners checked CCTV footage. Police arrested Paul Howell, age 56. They charged him with attempted burglary.
He was then charged with two more burglaries. These were at Laburnum Avenue in Blyth. This occurred the following week. In that case, he forced his way inside. He stole jewelry and bikes.
Police found most items at his house. This happened after they arrested him. Howell admitted guilt to all charges in court. He received his sentence on February 19.
The court gave him three years, seven months. Detective Constable Jon Mullen led the police work. Burglary makes people feel unsafe, he stated.
Howell is a repeat offender, Mullen explained. He is now in prison for a long time. Mullen emphasized reporting suspicious activity.
Police will act on reports to catch criminals. Northumbria Police fight burglary across the region. They review break-ins and pursue offenders. Their focus includes helping to prevent more crimes.
