A steel horse sculpture depicting local history proposed for new Liney Road housing development.

The art will be 2.5 meters tall, 0.8 meters wide, and two meters in length. Stonewater sent the plans to Somerset Council, which were prepared by Boon Brown, architects from Yeovil.
They say it connects to local history and the plan mentions the Battle of Sedgemoor, where horses and the river mattered. The King’s army included horse regiments in that battle.
The statement mentions rust removal, suggesting someone at some point might need to remove rust, potentially every 10 to 20 years. The Battle of Sedgemoor happened in 1685.
It ended the Monmouth Rebellion, during which the King’s army stopped Monmouth near Westonzoyland. Over 1,000 rebels died in the battle.
Stonewater built the Liney Road houses, a development with 42 homes. Twenty-nine homes have affordable rent, while fourteen homes are for shared ownership.
Stonewater wants its places “distinctive.” Public art will match good architecture, as they think shared spaces help a lot, and those spaces can lower crime rates.
