Horsforth Volunteer Penny Pinn Honored with Special Award
Feed Leeds is a food-growing network helping growers across Leeds. They work with allotments, community plots, parks, and many other places. Their goal is to feed the city well. They gave other awards that night, recognizing different projects. These projects grew food around Leeds and showcased great compost efforts. Businesses helping local food growers were also honored.
Penny helps with food projects in Horsforth. She runs Horsforth Community Cafe on Mondays at St Margaret’s Parish Centre. She also works with Horsforth Community Garden, located in Horsforth Hall Park and helps Horsforth in Bloom with herb beds and the orchard.
She works on projects with Horsforth Climate Action, having been involved since they started. She develops community composting sites at Inspiration Nursery and Drury Field, with another site coming soon. She runs food events called “Horsforth Climate Action Saturdays,” including gardening fairs and apple days, where they juice local apples to avoid waste.
Claire Evans, who works for Horsforth Community Assets Project, praised Penny’s work. Claire thanked Penny for her volunteering and for sharing her skills and passions. She helped people learn and grow, and Claire called Penny an asset to Horsforth.
