A man was arrested after a standoff involving the HSBC bank in Lewisham High Street. No hostages were involved.

A man was on the third floor waving a knife and shouting. Police got inside around 2:35 AM today, February 11th, finding him all alone in the building.
They took him to the hospital, and cops arrested him afterwards. He’s suspected of affray and making threats.
Emergency services went to the HSBC bank. Police put up a cordon nearby stretching between Lee High Road and Rennell Street, also including Belmont Hill.
They have lifted all the closures now, and everything is open again.
A police leader named Trevor Lawry spoke out, thanking residents for their patience. He leads policing in the South East area.
Lawry appreciates the concern this caused, reiterating thanks for everyone’s patience. He clarified there were no hostages involved; officers helped a man in mental distress.
Police got a call about it at 10:45 AM Monday, also on February 10th. They set up the cordon for public safety, as the man stayed inside a building.
Police worked with fire and ambulance services. Officers entered the building at 2:35 AM Tuesday, detaining him and taking him to the hospital. The arrest followed, and enquiries are ongoing.
