A lot of people will attend a police officer’s funeral. It honors PC Rosie Prior. Police from all over the UK come to York as she died at 45 after a lorry hit her last month.

PC Prior helped after a car crash that happened on the A19 near Thirsk. She stood on the road’s edge when it happened, and she and Ryan Welford died there. He was 41 and from Knaresborough and was in the first crash.

A teen boy was hurt badly, as he rode in Mr. Welford’s car. Around 800 people will be at the funeral, which is at York Minster on Thursday and is to be a full police ceremony.

A police piper leads the procession, and four police horses help too. Officers line the road to the Minster, carrying flags from different forces. A guard of honor will stand outside the Minster.

Chris, PC Prior’s husband, thanked the police and is grateful for their support. Family and friends also helped, and he asks for privacy to rebuild.

Chief Constable Tim Forber spoke after her death, saying helping was part of her nature. She showed the best of British policing, and she embodied North Yorkshire Police values.

PC Prior joined the police in 2022. She was born in Leeds.

Police arrested the lorry driver, being 65 and from Berwick-upon-Tweed, and they suspect dangerous driving caused death. He was later released while they investigate.
