PC Prior, age 45, and Ryan Welford, 41, passed away. A lorry struck them on January 11. The accident happened on the A19 near Bagby.

Over 800 people attended PC Prior’s service. Family, friends, and colleagues came to the Minster. The service occurred on Thursday, January 13. Police from all over the UK honored her. They lined Duncombe Place during the procession.

A piper and police horses led the way. People gathered to pay their respects. Tim Forber is North Yorkshire Police’s chief constable. He said Rosie Prior was the best of the force. She wanted to help people when she joined.

She bravely put others’ safety first. That bravery cost her life, he said. Forber stated they will care for Rosie’s family. She leaves behind two young sons. They now face life without their mother. He noted ten officers died since 1974.

He will ensure her memory remains strong. It will link to the force forever, he said. Forber saluted as her coffin entered. The procession went to Thirsk for a service.

PC Martin Scott worked with PC Prior. He called her bubbly and wonderful. She served as both a family member and officer. Scott said she was a modern woman. He also called her loss a true tragedy. Scott said PC Prior would approve of the service. She’d be looking down, proud of it all. He added that she’s having the final word.

The Mayor of York, David Skaith, attended. The York Civic Party also attended. Fiona Fitzpatrick, the Sheriff of York, spoke. Attending was the city’s highest honor, she thought.

A mourner wished to remain anonymous. They said everyone would respect PC Prior. People came to show respect for her service. She helped someone off-duty and lost her life. She did not have to help, but she did. The mourner hoped she would receive a medal.
