Hyndburn Council debates raising council tax by 2.99%. Lancashire County and Police also eye increases, affecting residents bills.

Hyndburn Council might raise council tax, and they will discuss it at a Wednesday cabinet meeting. A typical home’s bill could rise £8.03 a year for 2025/26, for a Band D house. Cllrs Aziz and Alexander recommend the increase, and the Full Council must confirm this on Feb 27.
Lancashire County Council could also raise taxes, possibly the maximum rise: 4.99 percent. Their full meeting is on February 26. If approved, Band D homes pay £82.50 more a year, impacting 12 boroughs, like Hyndburn. It starts April 1, for 2024/25. LCC handles social care plus schools and roads.
Police costs could also increase bills. The police commissioner wants a 5.31 percent rise, the maximum permitted increase. It adds £14 yearly for a Band D home in 2025/26. This money pays for county police, and it becomes effective April 1.
Hyndburn’s cabinet will discuss a 2.99% rise, which would raise a Band D property to £276.46. The 2025/26 budget aims for £17,313,300. Hyndburn residents will pay more for local services as the Band D charge goes up from £268.43.
National and global issues impact the budget. Higher inflation and pay settlements also contribute. This led to the council tax increase, potentially the maximum 2.99 percent allowed. It increases an average bill about £8.03 yearly.
Altham Parish Council sets its own tax rate. They plan to increase its rate by 2.66 percent. The Band D charge will climb to £44.33. It was just £43.18 during 2024/25.
