Okay, so listen to this story. It happened on Sunday, August 4th. Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells were best friends. They were at Holly’s house for a barbecue.

Around 6:15 PM, they left to get some sweets. Their parents thought they played in Holly’s room. But when the parents checked at 8 PM, they were gone. They panicked because they could not find them.

The police were called right away. Everyone in Soham helped search. The police interviewed Ian Huntley. He worked as a caretaker at their school. He said he saw them at his door, and they seemed happy during a chat.

Sadly, two weeks later, they found their bodies. It was August 17th, near RAF Lakenheath. That location was about ten miles east of Soham. The cause of death was asphyxiation.
Then, everyone wondered who did this awful thing.

People from Huntley’s hometown said something. They said he was linked to sex attacks on a woman. Turns out, he was investigated before for alleged rape in 1998. Plus, there were claims of sex with underage girls. This happened before he moved to Soham.

Police found Jessica’s phone signal near Huntley’s house. They searched his property then. They found fibers from the girls’ clothes. These fibers linked him to the crime.

Huntley got charged on August 20th with murder – two counts. His girlfriend, Carr, was charged too. She lied about where Huntley was.

The trial happened in December 2003. Huntley was found guilty of both murders. He received a life sentence, and he must serve at least 40 years. Huntley stays in prison at HMP Frankland in Durham. He has had problems there with other inmates.
