David McLaughlin denies wounding with intent, claiming self-defense at Durham Prison. Trial set for November.

McLaughlin’s lawyer spoke for him briefly and denied a serious charge of wounding with intent. His lawyer, Penny Hall, talked with him after the charge was read to McLaughlin in court.
Judge Kidd inquired about a lesser charge, but Hall said no. McLaughlin claims self-defense, asserting that someone attacked him first and he simply defended himself. The trial, scheduled for November 19 and 20, is expected to last two days.
Another hearing is set for May 13. McLaughlin’s release is just one week away, scheduled for February 19. The prosecutor won’t seek further remand after his release.
Judge Kidd adjourned the case, awaiting the May hearing and the trial. She granted McLaughlin technical bail, with his address for bail correspondence being Turnbull Close, Durham.
