An inquest revealed Beverley Davis, 79, died from choking on food at her Barkingside home in January.

He ordered a post-mortem exam, which happened on January 28th. The exam found she choked because a chunk of food blocked her throat, specifically her oropharynx.
The oropharynx is the middle of your throat, and “food bolus” means a stuck piece of food. She also had a hernia causing problems due to blocking her intestines.
The coroner decided to hold an inquest, as inquests look into unexpected deaths and check if similar deaths could happen again. The inquest is in the public interest.
Mr. Irvine asked for medical records from her doctor and documents from her home care provider, who visited her house. He wants a statement from the care manager describing her care plan and information from her last carer, who saw her alive. Police records are needed as well because they went to her home after her death.
Her family is legally “interested persons,” meaning they can see all evidence and question witnesses in court, which helps the inquest process. He asked the family for a statement describing her life and any concerns about her death. The final inquest is planned and will take place on July 29th.
