A 19-year-old man, Harry Calam, died after falling from a roof in Little Stonegate, York. The coroner ruled the death as misadventure.

The coroner called it misadventure. Harry worked at Kennedy’s Bar and his mom said he loved his job and enjoyed the people there. Harry was happy with his life, she also mentioned, and his family and friends miss him a lot.
One night, Harry went out with friends and they went to a few bars after work, before going to McDonald’s. One friend said he’d climbed a roof before, above some shops, and they got there by climbing scaffolding at a site.
Apparently, Harry and two friends climbed up and the other friend eventually joined them. It was dry and they could see okay. The roof had different levels and they started jumping between them, the inquest heard.
After a bit, two friends looked for their workplace. They then saw Harry on the roof and he seemed to fall, the inquest heard. Sadly, there was no lower level where he stepped, and he fell to the ground below.
His friends ran to help him but he wasn’t responding at all. One friend called for help immediately and started CPR until help arrived. Sadly, Harry died at the scene despite their efforts; it was so awful.
Police checked the construction site and ensured everything was safe. Fences and signs were in place, and they ruled out any safety issues. They also found no suspicious activity, confirming it was just a terrible accident.
Harry was over the drink-driving limit. The coroner believes he meant to jump again, and simply misjudged the distance. The coroner sent her condolences to his family and friends; it’s such a sad story.
