New parking rules start February 18th on Berners Street, Ipswich, to ease traffic congestion after council approval.

Ipswich Council asked Suffolk Highways for control. They wanted to limit parking times there, planning a Traffic Regulation Order.
Councillors pushed for this change over a year. The order got approved and starts on February 18th.
Suffolk Highways said they agreed to these parking limits then. This followed their traffic rules review.
Currently, the council fines people parking illegally, but it only applies to double yellow lines now. Mr. Kriedewolf wanted these powers expanded. He wanted to limit how long someone can wait, so the council could fine unsafe drivers.
He expects it to happen soon and is happy the plan worked out. He thinks it will help the traffic problem and should ease congestion on Berners Street.
People complained about driving down the street. Mrs. Lockington, another councillor, also supported the plan.
A Berners Street local spoke out before. Lizzie Hicks said a car nearly hit her, driving on the sidewalk to pass.
