Ines Ogata, 74, received a suspended sentence for running an Ipswich brothel disguised as a massage parlor. Shu Choy’s case continues.

Ines admitted guilt earlier. She admitted to corruption and managing prostitution. She lived on Arthur Road, Edmonton.
Shu also admitted guilt earlier. She admitted to corrupting public morals. This happened from June 2019 to October 2021. But Shu now wants to take back that admission. She lives in London.
The charges against both women involve a building on Upper Orwell Street. People advertised it as a shop, saying it sold Chinese medicine and was a massage parlor. The court learned it was actually a brothel, just a hidden operation.
Police watched the business, starting in late summer 2021. They did a sting operation in October. Two officers acted as customers. The officers didn’t use any services, but they confirmed it was for prostitution.
The officers called the business and spoke to Ines, the receptionist. They asked about “extras” from the masseurs. Ines said they must ask the girl and added she was not supposed to know.
Police arrived and arrested Ines at the building. The court knew she had a warning before, as she worked as a brothel receptionist back in 2011. Judge David Wilson sentenced Ines, knowing she felt sorry for what happened.
He gave her 12 months in prison, but suspended it for 18 months. Ines must do 25 rehabilitation activities and get mental health treatment.
Shu’s next court date is May 9. They will discuss her case again then.
