Ipswich Gallery Theatre Seeks Approval for Modern Seating Upgrade

The Gallery Studio Theatre wants to change its seating. The theatre is located on St George’s Street, and they sent plans to Ipswich Borough Council. The plan involves new seats for the audience. They want to replace seats installed back in 2009.

Currently, its layout has one middle aisle and aisles on both sides. The new seating will improve things. The current middle aisle lacks handrails. Wheelchair spots are in awkward places, limiting access for people with mobility issues.

Some people find current seats uncomfortable and bring cushions for extra comfort. The theatre says upgrades are important. They want to make the theatre safe and comfy, and the new seating should be modern and accessible. The plans aim to improve compliance, too.

The new setup will boost the seat count from 92 seats to 97 across six rows. The theater also wants a new control room that will sit at the auditorium’s back, providing a better spot for shows.

The changes should not damage the building. The 19th-century design matters, and they want to show off historic features. Furthermore, the plans meet all building rules, and the updated seating makes the theatre modern.
