BSCMS unveils its renovated Tower Street office in Ipswich, improving accessibility, offering vital support services.

The charity secured funding from the National Lottery and Rope Trust. This allowed them to renovate rooms on the ground and first floor. Russell Haynes Building provided significant assistance during the renovations. Supporters were invited to view the renovated building and witness the impressive changes on Tuesday.
Neil MacDonald, the leader of Ipswich Borough Council, spoke at the event. He described the transformation as remarkable, noting the contrast between the previously dingy and creaky space and the now welcoming atmosphere.
MacDonald emphasized the importance of a welcoming space for individuals utilizing support services. He also commended BSC for their dedicated work.
The downstairs updates have enabled BSC to help more people. The charity serves individuals from sixty-five nationalities, and the number of users has increased from 1,500 to 2,700.
Accessibility has significantly improved downstairs. Previously, some users struggled with stairs, restricting their access to the upper offices. Boshor Ali highlighted the importance of accessibility, particularly for the many elderly individuals using their services.
Support services have been relocated downstairs, enabling BSC to offer classes in the same area. Exercise, ESOL, and IT classes will now be held there.
Mojlum Khan shared a key achievement: the charity now supports significantly more women. Women now constitute nearly half of their users.
Muhammed Alam expressed his vision for a better Ipswich and Suffolk, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the humanity in everyone. He noted that this principle is central to BSC’s mission.
Russell Haynes and Andrea Pittcock were thanked with presentations for their contributions and support to the project. Various Councillors also expressed their gratitude to the charity. They commended its work for the BME community and its impact on Suffolk and Ipswich.
Mayor Elango K.Elavalakan highlighted the diversity of Ipswich. He said this diversity is what makes the city a desirable place to live.
Nadia Cenci praised the updated space, noting that it now reflects the charity’s significant impact and that the building now matches the quality of their service. Sandy Martin added that BSC earned and deserves such a welcoming and functional building.
