Baylight Properties bought Waterfront House. It’s located in Wherry Quay. They plan to revamp the site. The project is called ‘At Home with Clay.’

The site was a granary. R. & W. Paul built it long ago. Baylight wants to honor clay crafts, and they want exhibition and home spaces.

They want to reuse some silos. This will keep the Paul family’s legacy alive. Waterfront House is from the 18th century. Crispin Kelly leads Baylight Properties.

He said it was a Victorian warehouse and is a key part of Ipswich’s quayside history. It became offices in the 1980s. The last occupant left in 2023, and it has been empty since then.

Kelly talked about his plans in January. He hopes to submit a plan soon. It then goes to Ipswich Borough Council.

If approved, it could open by spring 2028. Consultations happened last month. The plan turns it into an attraction that will celebrate clay objects at home.

Spaces will vary in size. Some will be like home settings, and others will be big exhibits. You can touch some objects, and there will be visual and audio fun. They plan other amazing things too.

Ashtons, a law firm, used it from 2005 to 2023. They moved to Portman Road, and Waterfront House became vacant then. Ipswich Central supports Baylight’s plan. They think it will bring more people to the Waterfront.
