Jordan Wilkes is 28 and from Christchurch. He is on trial at Bournemouth Crown Court for stabbing a nine-year-old girl, who was playing with a friend in a building’s stairwell on Glider Close on August 20.

The girl told police that Wilkes grabbed her arm and stabbed her in the neck, chest, and knee. Initially, she didn’t realize she was hurt and only noticed after escaping. Her friend saw the knife first and began screaming.

Wilkes stopped the friend from escaping and aimed for the girl’s neck area. Both girls eventually managed to get away and ran to a flat upstairs for help.

A family helped the girls after hearing banging and the girls bursting into their flat. The injured girl’s friend was the one who asked for help and told them they were attacked, the attacker hurt her, and requested they lock the door.

The woman who helped noted that the girls were remarkably calm, but she found the chest wound very deep, revealing bone. A forensic expert, Dr. Shepherd, later confirmed that all three injuries were stab wounds.

The neck wound was two centimeters long, while the chest wound was eight centimeters, exposing fat and muscle. Dr. Shepherd stated that stabbing outcomes are largely based on luck.

Police arrested Wilkes later, and he admitted to having a pen knife in his bedside drawer. Police found the girl’s DNA on it. His cellphone records were subsequently checked.

The phone records revealed searches for child killers, massacres in schools, and the Southport killings. He had also viewed a violent video depicting a fatal stabbing on the day of the incident.

Wilkes admits causing serious harm and weapon possession. However, he denies attempting to murder the girl. He does not admit to attempted murder.
