Things are finally moving in Keith, Moray. Road repairs at Union Bridge will start soon. Amey, the roads agency, will begin work March 2. A riverbank collapsed there last July. This caused problems for drivers and businesses.

Douglas Ross, an MSP, met with Amey and locals to discuss the Union Bridge repairs. Ross said the road closure notice was short, as it closes the A96 on Sunday. Amey offered to delay the start, but everyone wanted the work to begin immediately.

Ross asked about diversions and wait times. Diversions were agreed upon with Moray Council, and wait times will remain the same. Amey stated that two full road closures are planned: the first at the start and the second in mid-May, upon completion.

Ross is pleased that work is commencing at the bridge. He recognizes the negative impact of the traffic lights on local businesses and is disappointed that no compensation was granted. He urges Amey to complete the work promptly. The A96 will be fully closed on March 2, between Station Road and Banff Road.

Northbound traffic can turn onto the A95, then take the A98 to rejoin the A96. Southbound traffic can proceed in the reverse order. Residents within the closure area will receive escorts, and pedestrians can utilize Auld Bridge.

From March 3 to May 18, motorists should anticipate traffic lights to facilitate safe repair work. Occasionally, brief road closures may be necessary, and further updates will be provided if this occurs. These road repairs are contingent upon favorable weather conditions and may be subject to delays if the weather is unfavorable.

The road work is estimated to cost approximately £500,000.
