The Northern Line station opened again late last year. It shut in June 2023 to replace old escalators. These escalators were 26 years old.

The escalator work needed to last until summer 2024. TfL said in February the station would stay shut until September. Essential repairs were needed in other areas. The station has been open since December. However, you still can’t use the ticket machines.

TfL wants the ticket machines working by April’s end. Susan Hall wrote to Sadiq Khan about the delay. She called the delay “absurd.” Shopkeepers stated the closure hurt their business.

TfL found issues with the ceiling and floor’s materials after starting work. The station opened in 1907. It is a historic station.

Workers can fix the ticket area only when the station is closed. This lessens the impact on customers. Top up your Oyster card before you get to the station. Buy a paper ticket ahead of time too. You can tap your bank card or phone.
