Waterfront building reaches milestone with successful pool tests. Project on track for late 2024 completion.

Councillor Brenda Harrison visited the site. She said the project is moving fast, and she thinks it will be great for the town. The tests are a big step forward, and she is excited to see the progress.
The project tried to be sustainable by recycling over seventy percent of the water. They moved it between the three pools and then reused it elsewhere. They did this during the testing.
David Wingfield works at Wates. He said the pools are exciting, and stabilizing them was a key part of the work. His teams worked to recycle water, and he praised everyone’s hard work on this. They will finish the pools soon, and they plan to be done by year’s end.
Tiling the pools will start soon, which will make the pool area real. Hartlepool Council funds the Highlight project. The Tees Valley Authority and Sport England also gave money. They expect to finish building by late this year.
Mill House Leisure Centre will transfer services later. This change will happen in phases. The building opens to the public in 2026, and it provides many options for active fun.
The hub has many things to offer. There’s a big pool with eight lanes, a smaller pool with a movable floor, and a fun pool with slides and water toys.
It also has a viewing area for watchers, a gym with one hundred stations, and multiple fitness rooms available. There is space for spinning and cycling. Kids can play in the play areas. A cafe, NHS rooms, and outdoor spaces exist.
