Mark Garnier celebrates the Kidderminster Shuttle’s 155th anniversary, noting its role and local changes in Wyre Forest.

The local paper’s name reflects Kidderminster’s history. Kidderminster used to be the UK’s carpet center. Carpet manufacturing is much smaller now. Only a few work in it now, after employing thousands.
He views the district through politics due to his job. Kidderminster and the Shuttle played a unique political role. He mentioned the hospital’s downscaling in the late 90s.
Politicians still mention “the Kidderminster effect” now. Dr. Richard Taylor’s election in 2001 was remarkable for Wyre Forest. Taylor’s election highlighted democracy’s good side.
The Shuttle helped spread Taylor’s message. Clive Joyce, the editor, gave important support. Some say it led Blair to invest much money into the NHS.
Wyre Forest adapted after the carpet market failed. New businesses replaced carpet factories. These include car parts, glasses, and rocket motors. Kidderminster is getting £40 million in investment.
They hope for more town center investment soon. They also want infrastructure improvements to help travel. The local economy must beat the regional average. They want high-paying jobs here with local benefit. The Shuttle must promote local victories.
