MKM Building Supplies raised over £2,500 for the hospital in memory of a colleague’s mother who passed away from cancer.
Robert Beck, a 26-year-old sales rep at MKM Building Supplies, wanted to honor his mother, Mechelle, a loving person. Mechelle Beck passed away last year after working at the hospital for 30 years as part of the audiology team; people valued her work there.
Mechelle had battled both breast and liver cancer before a brain tumor took her life at age 54; this motivated her family. Mechelle wished for donations to the hospital, requesting funeral money be directed there. The hospital gave her great care during treatment and her family kept fundraising after her funeral.
MKM fully supported Robert’s idea, choosing the hospital as their charity. They conducted bake sales and raffles, and customers made kind donations, all contributing to the cause.
These efforts raised £2,788.74 in total. The money went to the hospital’s cancer center, and it is hoped it will help many patients. Robert thanked the hospital wards for their care for his mom. He also extended his thanks to everyone involved with MKM’s fundraising, noting the staff are very kind.
Aiswarya George, a charge nurse in the cancer care unit, said donations help transform the hospital and improve patient care. Damian Roach, the MKM branch director, emphasized MKM’s commitment to strong communities and highlighted how Robert’s story touched the team, inspiring them to give back.
The Macmillan Centre inspired them to fundraise, and Damian witnessed generosity from his colleagues, partners, and customers. They truly supported this cause.
