The record store is reopening today. The original owner will run it because a deal with a new manager failed.

Tony Winfield owned The Record Shop since 1996. The shop is on St James Street. He closed it on January 25 after a clearance sale that started in July 2023.

The store was supposed to reopen today with new management set to take over. Tony told Lynn News the deal collapsed at the last minute.

Tony said he is keeping the shop and will reopen on February 11. After a week off from work, he is not sad to return but stated that it is time to retire.

Tony seeks someone seriously interested to take over the shop. The clearance sale will keep going, with most records and CDs at half price.

Tony thanked customers and friends, noting their support over 28.5 years. A sign in the shop’s window mentioned his great experience there and a lack of a “Monday morning feeling.”

He said he’d stay if he were younger and he’s been selling albums since the 1960s. Tony hoped a similar business would stay there and said the shop would shut gradually back in 2023 before closing.
