PLATFORM_ announced the name of its tenth UK project. It is called Sweetfields and sits in Leeds. This will be their first mixed-use development.

Sweetfields will be a big neighborhood. It will cover 1.3 million square feet. The site is in Holbeck’s South Bank area. It includes over 1,350 new homes, offices, and shops, all surrounding a public square.

The name “Sweetfields” comes from its location on Sweet Street West, near green spaces. It will boost the South Bank area as the city council wants to expand Leeds city center south.

PLATFORM_ and Housing Growth Partnership started phase one in 2024. They are building 451 rental homes, a grocery store, and the public square. Furthermore, they will rebuild The Commercial pub, once owned by Leeds United icon Peter Lorimer.

Sheffield artist Kid Acne gave the pub a makeover, using bold letters and folklore art. Peter Lorimer ran The Commercial, and the rail union ASLEF began there too.

Sweetfields is near many places, including Temple district bars and restaurants and Holbeck Urban Village. The British Library North is also planned nearby, and Leeds Station is just a seven-minute walk.

Several big companies are already in the area, such as Jet2 and Asda. AECOM and Fortrea are too, along with Eversheds Sutherland and SD Worx. There’s also flexible workspace at x+why and Marshall’s Mill.

Phase one finishes in early 2027. Two office buildings are also coming, offering businesses space in Leeds. One building has 90,000 sqft, and the other is 45,000 sqft.

These offices target sustainability, aiming for a BREEAM Excellent rating. There will be parking, business lounges, and workspace that can suit many companies, from tech startups to corporations. Knight Frank markets the spaces.
