Have your say on plans to improve safety on Leeds and Bradford Road. New speed limits and crossing upgrades proposed.

The plan includes a new 30 mph speed limit. This covers Leeds and Bradford Road, running from Eric Street to Swinnow Lane. Central markings should reduce speed and help drivers. Footpaths will get wider at the Broadlea Hill zebra crossing.
New islands are planned for pedestrians near Fall Park Court and by Eric Street’s bus stops. Another goes at Calverley Lane’s junction. Belisha beacons get an upgrade with better lighting. Existing pedestrian islands will widen too, granting wheelchair and pushchair users better access.
The footway at Newlay Lane’s junction will expand, decreasing crossing distances for pedestrians. On-street parking bays are a possibility, targeting areas where parking partly blocks the footway. Yellow lines extend near Rock Lane, going to a bus stop by Whitecote Lane. A right-turn lane could be added to serve Intake/Swinnow Lane.
A council person stated the plan boosts safety and addresses local worries the Highway Authority received. No spots needed formal pedestrian crossings. Councillor Kevin Ritchie wants one speed limit; he thinks 30 mph should cover the full road’s length. He cites consistency in the road as his reason.
Councillor Ritchie wants functioning dropped kerbs at every junction. He wants to stop illegal right turns from Leeds and Bradford Road into Rock Lane, which avoids Whitecote Hill’s traffic lights. He’s seen it happen too often and wants an island by Whitecote/Coppy Lane. He doesn’t want extended yellow lines near Upper Rodley Lane’s bus stop.
