Leeds Industrial Museum is getting a rebuilt engine shed. The old shed had issues and faced demolition because flood damage and structural flaws caused its removal. This also helped with Leeds’ flood control.

They want to fix up the Drying House Range, which needs basic repair and maintenance to stop future damage. Dampness has hurt the stone, and they’ll be fixing the deteriorated pointing to preserve the buildings so future visitors can enjoy them.

The west roof was too low, causing this area to fall into disrepair. Demolition allows for a better structure now that the museum hopes to use. This will improve conservation, and the visitor experience will be nicer, too.

The project costs £1.1 million and is funded by the council and Arts Council England. Separately, they approved heat pumps that will go opposite the main building. The goal is long-term energy sustainability and viability.
