A 17-hour police cordon in Lewisham ended after a man was seen with a knife. Roads are now reopened; no arrests reported.

Police kept a cordon up for about 17 hours. They spoke to a man inside a building, also checking if anyone else was inside. Police said last night that no one else seemed to be there.
Lewisham Council said the cordons were lifted this morning, allowing residents to go back home. Roads are now open too. The police haven’t shared if they arrested anyone.
People shared videos online showing police entering the building, supposedly with the man inside. The local news hasn’t confirmed those videos. Emergency services gathered outside the HSBC bank. The closed area was near Lee High Road, affecting Belmont Hill and Rennell Street as well.
Lewisham High Street experienced traffic jams in both directions between Lee High Road and Belmont Hill. Rennell Street also saw backups, with traffic congestion stretching half a mile down Lee High Road.
