Yorvik Homes starts building 127 homes at Highfield Chase in Leyburn. Affordable options and community benefits are included.

The council approved building plans last February. There will be houses, semi-detached houses and terraced houses, and they are also planning to build 22 bungalows. In total, there will be 127 homes, with 28 homes sold at a discount and ten as affordable rentals.
Access changed for the development on Moor Road, moving it ten metres west so it’s not across from the council depot anymore. The plans include new public spaces, allowing people to walk to Thornborough Hall Gardens for connection to Leyburn Town Centre.
The Leyburn Town Council supports the project, thinking the town needs more homes. However, over 50 people objected the plan, worried about potential flooding in Leyburn and that parking might not suffice for everyone. People were also concerned about schools and healthcare.
Some worried new residents would misuse Woodburn Drive, because this is a private road with no public access. The new path through Thornborough Woods also might not work well. Yorvik Homes will help the school expand by paying £363,693 for Leyburn Primary School and £150,000 to improve bus routes.
