Marius Ziugzda, age 48, got a life sentence on February 13. He must serve at least 18 years. A court found him guilty of murder, with the trial ending on January 17.

Brian Shields died on October 20, 2022. He and Ziugzda lived in a park. The attack involved head and chest trauma.

Detective Sergeant David Brooks spoke about the case, mentioning their supposed friendship. Ziugzda still attacked Shields badly. The police worked hard on this case, and many witnesses helped them too.

Police went to a park in Redbridge after receiving a call about a man there. It was 11:14 am on the morning of his death. Emergency workers tried to save him; sadly, Brian Shields died at the scene.

Ziugzda spoke to police at the scene, admitting he was with Shields. He said, “I killed him today” and also mentioned doing it that morning.

Police noticed marks on Ziugzda’s hands. He later claimed police misunderstood him. Detectives questioned him closely about this.

Ziugzda said they went to the park together on October 19, 2022, at 8 pm. He left to buy water from a store, stating Shields was fine when he returned.

Detectives checked CCTV from nearby shops, showing Ziugzda bought water and alcohol that night. The CCTV also showed blood was already on his trousers.

The blood was Shields’ blood, proving Ziugzda lied about Shields’ condition before sleep. Police charged Ziugzda on October 23, 2022.
