A gorse fire keeps burning on Llanbedrog headland. North Wales Fire and Rescue Service reported this fact. Fire crews battled the blaze all night long and are still working on it now. Nearby residents watched the fire’s spread, horrified as they saw it.

The fire service gave an update this morning, just after 11 am on Friday, February 14. They got a call last night at 9:42 pm on February 13. The fire involved much gorse and bracken, and about 100,000 square meters burned.

Four fire crews responded initially, along with a wildfire unit and a special vehicle. Two crews still work on the scene, damping down remaining hotspots and expecting to monitor it for hours.

The fire’s cause is currently unknown, and they urge people to be “Wildfire Wise.” Their campaign teaches wildfire prevention, and people can read more on their website.

Greta Hughes photographed the fire last night between 10:30 and 11:30 pm. Her friend, who lives in Llanbedrog village, warned her about the fire, calling at 9:47 pm. The fire was ablaze when she checked and was traveling very fast.

According to Greta Hughes, the fire is above the beach, south of Llanbedrog village, and between the beaches and the Warren site.

Councillor John Hughes thanked the fire service for working hard overnight to fight it. He does not know the fire’s cause either, but the weather has been very dry lately. He knows of other wildfires nearby recently, as Cilan and Rhiw Mountain also burned.

The fire service addressed social media users, saying they got many calls asking about the Llanbedrog fire, assuring them that crews are dealing with the gorse fire.
