Carmarthenshire Council issues report on Llansteffan floods, investigating causes and proposing mitigation strategies.

Two storms hit Llansteffan close together, one on December 30, 2023, and the other on January 2, 2024. About 34 homes flooded to some degree, even though rainfall wasn’t extreme, measuring just 19mm and 32mm.
Lots of rain happened before the storms, making the ground very wet. Extra water ran off and overwhelmed streams. A buried drainpipe also made things worse, as it stopped water from draining properly.
They talked to locals about the floods in April 2024, and people shared their experiences. The investigation checked how groups responded, reviewing the council, fire service, and others.
The report has actions to help manage flood risks and make the community strong. They will review how things operate. A council member said he feels for the flood victims, and the council will see that recommendations are done. They will work with groups to lower flood risks.
