TfL proposes regulation for pedicabs like taxis, addressing nuisance and safety concerns. Public consultation open until March 7.

Things might change soon in London. A new law gives TfL more power, so they can now regulate pedicabs in public areas.
TfL wants rules and licenses for pedicabs, much like the rules taxis and private cars follow. The public can share their thoughts on this.
Hugh Counsell thinks rickshaws are a nuisance and a safety risk. He feels this way because a pedicab hit his relative in London.
His relative got hurt in July 2024. The driver sped away after the accident, but the pedicab had no license plate to identify it.
Hugh thinks action is long overdue. Additionally, one person said tourists get overcharged. Pedicabs sometimes demand large payments after taking couples for short rides, even asking for hundreds of pounds. Regulation is certainly needed now.
Not everyone minds seeing the cabs. They are common in central London, like Soho, although one person hasn’t seen them elsewhere.
People can share their opinions with TfL. The consultation portal closes on March 7, and anyone can give their thoughts there.
