Alan Gordon wants more people to join. He says community councils help everyone. Longstone has ten members. The council wants better community representation. They want people of all backgrounds and abilities.

They want to use the community’s full talent. Each council has its own area. You can check the boundaries on the council website. To join, you must be on the electoral register. You also need someone to nominate you. A second person has to second them.

Council members care about their community. They want to make positive changes. Longstone council works with local councillors sometimes. Together, they have made a difference. Longstone Council worked on the old Booker site.

It is next to Sainsbury’s. They suggested a bridge. It would connect Longstone to Hutchison/Chesser. The community supported this idea. The council spoke at a planning meeting. Local councillors and a trust also spoke.

They argued for the bridge effectively. They wanted the developer to help fund it. Planners thought this wasn’t possible. The developer redesigned the building project. They included a path for a future link. The developer offered £170,000 for the bridge.

This offer lasts for ten years. The council’s argument secured the funds. The council put the Longstone Link on its consultation list. The Transport Committee is also tracking it. They plan to start a consultation soon.

The junior park run also excites Alan. It’s a project with another group. They are called SW20. Paul is SW20’s secretary and a runner. The park run is almost ready. They need to finish some checks first.

Alan hopes it starts around Easter. Many people have volunteered already. They have six run directors. They’re doing PVG checks and training. Longstone Council got a grant for the park run.

They applied for Southwest Community funding. The grant covers a portion of the startup costs. It is roughly about £4,800. Council elections occur on March 27, if needed. This applies to all 47 Edinburgh councils.
