Any Practitioner wishing to attend an LSCB courses must register with the Liverpool Early Help Directory. Individuals can then book themselves directly onto courses.

HOWEVER – PLEASE NOTE.

LSCB COURSES BOOKINGS WILL BE MANAGED BY THE LSCB TEAM.

Multi Agency – No more than four people from each sector will be permitted to book onto each session.

(LSCB reserves the right to monitor and withdraw bookings if required, to ensure that the audience remains multi agency).

 

Courses currently available:

BASIC SAFEGUARDING AWARENESS (this is NOT a refresher course)

This is a half day learning session for staff from all agencies who are involved in work with children and families; either in a statutory or voluntary capacity that work with or come into contact with children and young people and their families. 

Course Aims: To provide staff with a basic understanding of Liverpool Safeguarding Children and Young people procedures giving workers an introduction to issues of recognition of the different categories of child abuse. It is therefore not appropriate for workers who have substantial experience of working in the child protection system.

UNDERSTANDING THE ROLE OF THE NEW DESIGNATED SAFEGUARDING OFFICER (Suitable for those who are NEW to the role)

Course Aims: This is a one day course designed to support staff in multi-agency settings who are new to the role and responsibilities of a Designated Safeguarding Coordinator.

WORKING WITH RESISTANT FAMILIES – NEW**

Course Aims: This full day course aims to raise attendees awareness and explore ways of overcoming, the obstacles that prevent effective engagement with non-compliant families

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ABUSE – An Awareness Session

Course Aims: This half day session will provide attendees with a basic knowledge of domestic violence and abuse.

Attendees will develop an understanding as to the importance of their role in referring or signposting victims to appropriate and relevant support agencies and to work within the guidelines of safeguarding adults and children.

The session will enable attendees to develop understanding of the effects of abuse on all victims including women and children and of   'what to do' if they are concerned for the welfare of a client, child or young person.

IMPACT OF DOMESTIC ABUSE ON CHILDREN PRE BIRTH TO 11 YEAR OLDS (Suitable for those who are working with children in this age group)

Course Aims: This half day session will explore the impact of domestic abuse and on babies and children.

IMPACT OF DOMESTIC ABUSE ON CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 11-18 yrs (Suitable for those who are working with young people in this age group)

Course Aims: This half day session will identify ways in which teenagers are affected by domestic abuse.

MAPPA AWARENESS (Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements)

Course Aims:   A half day briefing session to provide attendees with a clear understanding of MAPPA.

These arrangements are put in place to manage the risks posed by certain sexual and violent offenders. The arrangements bring together Police, Probation and Prison services to work alongside a number of other agencies that have a statutory duty to co-operate in managing those risks.

RESPONDING TO CONCERNS ABOUT SELF HARM

Course Aims: This half day session will explore aspects self-harm in children and young people.

Attendees will develop an understanding as to why young people self-harm and importance of offering early help and support to young people engaging in this behaviour.

HARMUL PRACTICES INCLUDING (Forced Marriage, So called ‘Honour’ Based Violence) and Female Genital Mutilation)

Course Aims: A one day learning session aimed at raising the knowledge and awareness of staff working in key services and agencies in Merseyside to enable them to respond sensitively and appropriately to situations involving harmful practices

LEARNING THE LESSONS FROM REVIEWS

Course Aims: To share the learning, key themes and findings arising from both local and national case reviews including those identified through Serious Case Reviews

WORKING TOGETHER – A Shared Responsibility

This is a two day course for professionals who work regularly with children, young people and their families. Participants must have completed a Basic Safeguarding Awareness course BEFORE booking onto this course.  This training focuses on the processes, principals and dilemmas of working together effectively to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. 

Course Aims: To support practitioners to develop their understanding of the processes which support the safeguarding of children and young people. To extend knowledge, and promote the skills and abilities required to enable effective partnership working.   

 2018 Dates: Tuesday and Wednesday 12th/13th June 2018 (2 full days), Tuesday and Wednesday 18th/19th September 2018 (2 full days), Tuesday and Wednesday 9th/10th October 2018 (2 full days).

Course Aims: To provide attendees with an update of revised national and local safeguarding policy, practice and statutory guidance. To further develop an understanding of processes that support effective safeguarding of children and young people.

SPOTLIGHT ON…….. Sessions Spotlight sessions are monthly Sixty Minute multi-agency briefings. Each one has a different focus and all are co facilitated by LSCB Training Coordinator along with colleagues from across the LSCB Partnership. Practitioner Guidance notes are developed to support each one.
