The Axe Yacht Club donated over £5,000 to Lyme Regis RNLI, their closest lifeboat station, located in Seaton, Devon.

Tom Preston, the club’s commodore, and Steve Robertson, their rear commodore, visited the RNLI station. They met the crew and were given a tour, after which the RNLI expressed their gratitude.

Nick Marks, the lifeboat press officer, led the tour. They saw all the equipment and learned about the extensive training involved.

Mark Colley, who manages lifeboat operations, expressed his appreciation for Tom and Steve’s visit and the yacht club’s ongoing fundraising efforts, crucial for enabling the RNLI to save lives at sea.

The club held an auction, a barbecue event, and a ‘pig racing’ night to raise money, along with a raffle. These events were strongly supported by club members and local businesses.

£500 was allocated to Seaton and Beer RNLI, while £5,644 was donated to Lyme Regis RNLI.

Mr. Preston emphasized that members support coastal safety and deeply value the RNLI’s work, which serves the local area and beyond, noting that a number of their members have been rescued. The club’s donation serves as a thank you for the volunteers and their lifesaving charity.

The Lyme Regis lifeboat station, founded in 1826, is now located on the historic Cobb. It houses the Atlantic 85 lifeboat, and its crew has received 20 awards for gallantry, demonstrating extreme bravery over the years.

Volunteers provide 24/7 search and rescue services. Alongside over 240 lifeguard units working around the UK’s beaches. Independent from the Coastguard and government, the RNLI relies on donations and legacies to operate.

Since its start in 1824, the RNLI’s crews and lifeguards have incredibly saved more than 146,000 lives.
