Folks are objecting to a youth venue in Machynlleth. William Tremlett wants to open it; he directs Stiwdio Dyfi. The location is Unit Two, Bank Lane. The council will decide on March 5th.

The venue is also known as “Sploj Machynlleth.” Tremlett envisions it as a “community hub” for 18 to 29 year olds. They plan to host workshops, film screenings, and live music at the venue.

Some residents are expressing concerns. Councillor Alwyn Evans shared their worries, including fears of property value drops nearby. The proximity of Cartref Dyfi, a care home, also raises concerns about residents’ well-being.

Other objectors voiced their concerns in letters to the council. One person fears very loud music and worries about disruption impacting mental health. Others noted the care home’s proximity, and some believe Machynlleth doesn’t need more alcohol.

Tremlett addressed these concerns in his application, emphasizing that alcohol isn’t key to the venue’s main aim. He stated that it won’t be a bar or pub and that alcohol will only be available on some occasions to complement hosted events.

He also assured that they will prevent a public nuisance. They will manage noise levels during music events, and staff will ensure orderly dispersal at closing time, promoting quiet departures from the venue.

If approved, alcohol sales would be permitted from 6 PM to 10 PM. Live music would run from 6 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Saturday. Recorded music plays from 10 AM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Saturday, while film screenings are scheduled daily from 10 AM to 10 PM.
