Encephalitis International in Malton gets £200 from Broadacres for their “Life after Encephalitis” project.

Infection or the immune system can cause it. Encephalitis can change someone’s personality. People may get confused or act different, and psychosis, seizures, or hallucinations are possible, as is memory loss.
Epilepsy and fatigue may follow encephalitis. Returning to work is often tough, and going back to school might be impossible, because it steals who you once were. Most people haven’t heard of encephalitis, making people feel alone and scared.
The group plans a “Life after Encephalitis” project to improve support for those affected. They also want to connect people with services, including helplines and support groups. These support groups are both virtual and in person.
Broadacres gave them £200 for this project, helping run it in 2025. Over 400 members are from North Yorkshire, where 227 local cases occurred in five years.
They want to show people they aren’t alone and emphasize that support exists after encephalitis. Groups will focus on specific relationships to it and can be for patients and family. Some groups support those who’ve lost someone.
