Jamie Geddis faces charges after allegedly smuggling drugs into prison following temporary release for his child’s birth.

Geddis faces charges, including vehicle theft and assault. He also faces them for driving without insurance. His lawyer admitted the return to prison complicated things. He had a court hearing on Friday for bail.
The court gave him bail February 5 for his child’s birth. A prison officer said Geddis failed an X-ray scan. Staff found a plastic-wrapped object in his buttocks. They think it’s subutex and diazepam. The substance weighed 13.7 grams.
Prosecutors mentioned seventeen prior bail violations. They also noted five past bench warrants. Geddis’ lawyer knows the court sees the issues. He knows the past affects the bail chance.
The lawyer said Geddis was doing well before now. He had achieved some stability recently. Geddis wants to live with his partner and baby. The lawyer thinks this address helped him stay stable.
The lawyer said Geddis is from Lurgan originally. Taking him outside Lurgan helped him, he argues. He stayed out of trouble away from Lurgan. He even worked in Dublin as a laborer.
The lawyer discussed the prison incident. He said there were no issues at the hospital or house. Geddis claims he passed the body scan at first. Another person asked him to hold a package. He claims he did not know what it was. Then he got caught with it.
The judge questioned his story. He asked if Geddis knew it was drugs for someone else. The judge denied bail because of his record. He cited dishonest acts and a theft record. This makes him untrustworthy.
The judge said compassionate bail needs total honesty. He doubted Geddis was honest this time. The judge said he will never give Geddis bail again. Other courts would probably agree, he added. He is a risk for re-offending. He might break the bail terms.
