Dafydd Harper admitted damaging a door at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. He must pay compensation and costs.

The damage occurred on August 12, when he damaged a window at the hospital. Prosecutor Shane Maddocks shared the details in court, noting Harper was being assessed in the Heddfan Unit’s Dyfrdwy Ward at the time.
Harper became very angry that day because he needed to stay until his assessment finished. He told staff he wanted to leave and also became abusive, necessitating staff to move patients from the area to ensure everyone’s safety.
He kicked a door’s glass panel, causing it to shatter. Police were called afterwards. Euros Jones, defending Harper, noted he was a unit patient at the time and that he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Harper had received a 34-week suspended sentence for 16 months on January 15, which included a requirement to participate in rehabilitation for 20 days.
Jones argued that the damage should have been addressed sooner, possibly within the scope of the January sentence, and suggested a conditional discharge. The court agreed to a 12-month conditional discharge, but Harper must also pay £100 compensation and £85 in costs.
