Adejuwon Oyekan admits manslaughter in the stabbing death of his stepdad, Jason Thompson, after returning from Ibiza.

Oyekan knelt over Jason Thompson, who was 54 years old at the time. This happened in Hayes, Middlesex, in July 2023.
Oyekan, age 32, had just returned from Ibiza. His family worried about his behavior after the trip, as it seemed to change him. He had no known mental illness before. However, Oyekan had a history of drug use.
Past convictions included cocaine and cannabis possession. He also had intent to supply other drugs, including cocaine, ketamine, and MDMA.
The police received a call early on July 11. Someone reported Oyekan “lost his mind” and had a knife. Police arrived to find a disturbing scene: he knelt over his stepdad with a knife.
Oyekan then stabbed Mr. Thompson in the neck. Officers used a taser on him, but the taser did not stop Oyekan. Firearms officers arrived to help detain him.
Oyekan received a paranoid schizophrenia diagnosis and was set for a murder trial, scheduled at the Old Bailey for March 31. But instead of trial, he pleaded guilty on Monday, admitting manslaughter by diminished responsibility. The court accepted this plea. Oyekan will be sentenced on April 10 at the same court.
