Hey, something crazy happened in Peterlee. Police got called to The Tanning Shop on Passfield Way around 11:30 PM on Monday, February 24. A van crashed right into the building, and people reported it was on fire.

Cops arrested a man soon after the incident. He’s suspected of arson, driving without a valid license, and having no insurance. Plus, the man had a Class A drug.

The police said they got calls about a vehicle crashing into the tanning shop, which someone then lit on fire. Firefighters quickly put out the flames, and thankfully, nobody got hurt.

A man in his 30s is now in custody, suspected of arson, driving illegally, and possessing a controlled substance. A police helicopter was seen above the shop.

People also reported police at the nearby Shell Southside Service Station. Photos show major damage to The Tanning Shop, with ladders set up in front of the building. Workers were seen outside afterward.
